| When Harriet Bullitt commissioned a piece for
her Sleeping Lady Conference Retreat, she gave me total freedom.
In one month, a large, outdoor, freestanding sculpture on top of
a very large granite boulder was conceived and built.
I worked with my team by fax and the construction took place
in sub-zero weather. It snowed six feet the weekend the piece
went up. To make full use of winter in the Cascades, I designed
an armature with a strip heater built inside it. Staff at Sleeping
Lady can warm it up, melt the snow, and form real icicles, which
hang from the glass icicles.
