Honolulu Academy of Arts

As the first chance to work outdoors at a museum, Chihuly Courtyards was a truly unique exhibition. Housed in a gracious turn-of-the-century building surrounding five courtyards, the Honolulu Academy boasts the single most important collection in the Islands.

Working hand in hand with George Ellis, the director, and Sarah Bremser, curator for the show, we developed five outdoor installations responding to the architecture and Honolulu’s extraordinary light. It was my first museum exhibition with all the pieces exposed to the elements-which included the challenge of lighting at night.
