Upcoming
The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco will present a major Chihuly exhibition, June 14 - September 28, 2008 at both the de Young Museum and the Legion of Honor. The exhibition is organized by FAMSF and will be accompanied by a catalog written by curator Timothy Anglin Burgard. In advance of the full exhibition, four sculptures have been installed: The Sun, Saffron Tower, Sea Blue and Green Tower, and Aquamarine Three-Tiered Chandelier. The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is exhibiting a 20-piece Macchia Forest by Chihuly as part of The Glass Experience—an innovative and interactive exhibition that reveals the science, craftsmanship and beauty that is the world of glass and glassmaking. Chihuly's artwork is accompanied by a short film that explains the process of coloring a handblown glass object. The exhibition dates are March 13 - September 1, 2008.
The Rhode Island School of Design Museum in Providence will exhibit a survey of Chihuly's early work and a major 4,000 square foot installation, September 27 - January 4, 2009. This will be the inaugural exhibition for the Chase Center, designed by Rafael Moneo.

Recent
Chihuly in the Hotshop, a new documentary directed by Peter West, premiered on opening weekend at the 19th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival on January 3, 2008. The film had its Northwest premier in Washington State February 6 at the Museum of Glass in Tacoma, and aired on KCTS in Seattle February 7 and again February 9. On February 17 it was shown at the 31st Portland International Film Festival at the NW Film Center, Portland, Oregon.
A major Chihuly installation is on public display: Fireworks
of Glass at The
Children's Museum of Indianapolis is currently Chihuly's largest
permanent sculpture. The 43-foot tower rises above what appears
to be a floating glass ceiling under which children and families
can engage in an interactive and hands-on glassblowing experience.

Chihuly Installations in the Puget Sound Area
The Chihuly Studio is closed to the public. However, if you are planning a visit to the Seattle area, there are several public sites featuring Chihuly installations that are worth a visit. A list of some of the spots open to the public with addresses linked to MapQuest maps is available as a web page or as a downloadable Adobe Acrobat pdf file.

Screening Room now features Cinema format videos shot in HD
The updated and expanded Video
section of this web site includes over 50 documentary
shorts and trailers. Nearly five hours of footage includes
major projects, permanent installations and museum exhibitions
as well as Chihuly and the hot shop and installation teams
in action. Also included are over a dozen intimate interviews
featuring Chihuly discussing his glass series. Just added
are new videos shot in HD in Cinema format: New York Botanical Garden, Missouri Botanical Garden, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, and the Phipps Conservatory
and Botanical Gardens. For full-length versions of many
of the films in both VHS and DVD formats, be sure to visit
